Black and White Photography
The power of a beautiful radiant print is magical and can elicit deep emotional responnse from the viewer.
The old saying A picture is worth a thousand words is inadequate.
The photographer views a color scene and visualizes the final print is shades of gray. From deep black to shining silver the photographer stretches or contracts the light to fit the print visualized in the mind. Only in photographery are there infinite shades of gray between the deep black and glowing silver light. To capture light on a sheet of paper in just the way visualized is truly magical.
Given enough time and equipment most people could master the technical aspects of black and white photography. Modern technology makes certain technical skills easier, but it cannot replace the artistic values necessary to "see" a black and white print while viewing a color world. Ansel Adams once said, There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept! Only with the technical skills mastered can the photographer's creative side be free and intuitive. French research Louis Pasteur said, Chance favors the prepared mind.
Art is the only way to preserve some of God's magnificent creation. Man is rapidly destroying this world. Photography has helped change many attitudes toward environmental concerns.
I hope these prints can enhance that change.
