Lori and I travelled to Portugal in September 2017.
We rented a car and drove all over the country enjoying the diversity of this beautiful land.
After visiting Porto we drove about 15 minutes south to Miramar Beach.
On the beach, right at the waterline is one of the most unique chapels in the world.
It is built on a few rocks that sit out on this sandy beach.

This image was taken halfway across the sandy beach looking out toward the Atlantic Ocean.

This is the site of ancient pagan worship, where rituals were once performed
and where the Capela do Senhor da Pedra (Chapel of the Lord of Stone) is located today.
During the 17th century this hexagonal structure was constructed to reclaim the land from the "heretic naturalist pagans" who sought enlightenment at the very same site.

Every year, starting on Trinity Sunday, a three-day festival commemorating the site's Pagan past takes place in Miramar. The festival ends on the following Tuesday with a procession of "witches whose identities remain unknown" walk from the town to the chapel.
