In March of 2019 Lori and I flew to Istanbul, Turkey.
After spending several days exploring on our own we joined up with a Rick Steves tour. This tour started in Istanbul, but in the following weeks we visited a lot of Turkey, from Ankara to Cappadocia to the south and eventually to the west coast and Kusadasi.
After Cappadocia we visited the town of Konya which is home to the Mevlana Museum.
This is a deeply spiritual site and was the original lodge for the Mevlevi Order,
known around the world as the Whirling Dervishes.
Today it houses the tomb of the famous Sufi mystic, Jalal ad-Din Rumi (Mevlana).
This is a major pilgrimage destination which contains Rumi's sarcophagus.
This image has a woman walking through the Seljuk architectural buildings with
the iconic turquoise-tiles Green Dome in the back.
During this trip we had the pleasure of meeting Chris and Jenny, who live in Oregon.
We have remained great friends for many years after this trip and still travel together today.
