In 2006 Lori and I took Lori's parents, Hal and Pat, to the Amazon.
We flew to Lima, Peru and spent several days there, then flew over the Andes Mountain Range into Iquitos, Peru.
Iquitos sits on the Amazon River near the borders of Brazil, Columbia and Ecuador in northern Peru.
We boarded a small ship with twelve rooms for guest and set off down the river.
We saw pink dolphins, piranha, troops of various monkeys, caimans, and other wildlife.
Each night we would tie the boat to trees on the side of the river for the night.
On one of the mornings Lori and I got up early and were sitting in the back of the boat right next to the jungle and a troop of monkeys went swinging past us only twenty feet away. The were full grown, but only inches tall.
One day several of us boarded two canoes and went fishing for piranha. Lori caught the first one and the biggest one. Our crew cooked them for dinner that evening. They were horrible!
On one of the many days we got off the ship and ventured onto land, we visited the small village of San Pedro.
This image was taken of a bunch of kids listening to a man telling a story.
