In September of 2016 Lori and I flew to London, rented a car and took a three and a half week driving trip of England and Wales. We planned on visiting Fountains Abbey on the fifteenth day.
We both enjoyed the place so much that we altered our timing and spent the next day there also.
The abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery in North Yorkshire, England.
Founded in 1132 under the direction of Thurstan, archbishop of York.
Over the centuries it became one of the wealthiest monasteries in England.
Under King Henry VIII and the Dissolution of the Monasteries it was closed 1539.
Several movies and television shows have been filmed at this beautiful location.
Looking at this image of a lake and trees it easy to believe it was so wealthy in it's day.
In the background on the left side you can see the old ruined abbey.
This is one of the few images that I print as "faux painting" and regular.
Both version of this image have special meaning, and I love them both.
This image is the "faux painting" version.
