The pearl of the Adriatic.....Dubrovnik, Croatia.
This stunning and well preserved medieval town is circled by massive stone walls sitting on the Adriatic Sea.
The architecture ranges from baroque St. Blaise Church, Renaissance Sponze Palace and Gothic Rector's Palace.
There is a fort on top of the hill above the city that was built by Napoleon Bonaparte.
The city was founded around 614 by Roman refugees fleeing the Slavs and Avars.
In recent history it is known as Kings Landing in the television show Game of Thrones.
For this image Lori and I took the cable car up to mount Srd. This four minute rides gets you 2,550 feet above see level. This is the location Napoleon choose for a fortress to guard the city.
The view down on Dubrovnik is amazing. The land in the upper left corner is Lokrum Island.
This image is from the first time we visited the city in 2012. We have returned two other times over the years.
