Lori and I where in Antigua, Guatemala on Good Friday in 2022. The entire town participates in anelaborate public observance of Christ's Passion through a series of solemn processions. These events include the iconic alfombras de aserrín, or colorful carpets made of sawdust, which are laid on the streets only to be walked over and destroyed by the processional floats. Large, heavy wooden floats (andas) bearing statues of Christ are carried by hundreds of bearers, called cucuruchos, through the streets, accompanied by mournful music, incense, and thousands of participants. This young girl was sitting on the grass in the town's main square. Right as I was taking the image, a man put his fist into the frame and said something to make her look up.
