Lori and I where in Antigua, Guatemal on Good Friday in 2022.
The entire town participates in an elaborate public observance of Christ's Passion through a series of solemn processions. There events include the iconic alfombras de aserrin (colorful carpets made of sawdust) which are laid on the streets only to be walked over and destroyed by the processional floats.
The floats (andas) are large and heavy and bear statues of Jesus and Mary. They are carried by hundreds of bearers called cucuruchos through the streets accompanied by mornful music, incense and thousands of participants.
This man and his daughter were among the crowd and her colorful red hat stood out.
